Signing on as the principal sponsor of the campaign, the Australian condom maker has donated $10,000 to the Appeal and will be making special Red Ribbon condoms to be given away at various events leading up to World AIDS Day.
Organised by ACON and the AIDS Trust of Australia, the Red Ribbon Appeal raises money to fight HIV/AIDS and to help people living with the virus. It takes place every year in the lead up to World AIDS Day on December 1.
“World AIDS Day and the Red Ribbon Appeal are our two biggest opportunities throughout the year to raise awareness about HIV prevention, reduce HIV discrimination and raise money to help people with HIV,” ACON CEO, Nicolas Parkhill said.
“This new partnership with GLYDE Health is a natural alliance and we’re extremely grateful for the generous support we’re receiving from them for this year’s Appeal.
“We now hope that GLYDE Health’s goodwill will encourage other organisations and businesses to also offer their support.”
GLYDE Health CEO Clive Woodworth said his company is proud to be involved in the Appeal.
“Ultimately, our two organisations are all about helping people look after their health and wellbeing,” Woodworth said.
“Coming on board as a principal supporter of the Red Ribbon Appeal is another way for us to realise that goal by helping spread the safe sex message and by contributing funds for essential services for people with HIV.
Donations to the Red Ribbon Appeal can be made online at www.redribbonday.org.au.
ACON is also seeking volunteers to sell ribbons on World AIDS Day or place a Red Ribbon merchandise box in their workplace or business in the lead up to World AIDS Day. For more info, please visit: www.redribbonday.org.au.
GLYDE's Red Ribbon
Condom
GLYDE Health has developed and trademarked the Red Ribbon® condom for bona fide not for profit organisations to use during fundraising activities. The condom, which is instantly recognisable as a fundraising product, can be purchased for 15 cents each when a shipping carton quantity (6,000 condoms) is ordered. Not for profit organisations can then on-sell the condoms as they wish, or offer them to the general public in exchange for a gold coin donation. All profits go straight to the organisation to assist them in the important work they do in the community.
In addition, GLYDE will donate an additional 4 cents for every condom purchased by the not for profit organisation. This donation will be in the form of a rebate, payable every 2 months.
This means that if the not for profit organisation was to exchange every Red Ribbon condom for a $1 gold coin donation, and then collect their 4 cent rebate from GLYDE, the organisation could realise as much as $6,240 for an initial outlay of just $900. That is a net profit of $5,340 for every carton of Red Ribbon condoms purchased.
